Nurul Balqis binti Mohamed Othman is the Senior Vice President of Shariah Banking Operations at Bank Rakyat, with more than a decade of experience in the Islamic banking industry, having begun her career in 2012. Prior to her current role, she spent four years in the Islamic Capital Market Department at the Securities Commission Malaysia.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies and Arabic Language from Al-Azhar University, Egypt, and a Master’s in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), graduating with distinction and receiving the Book Award with a CGPA of 3.91. She also holds the Certificate of Shariah in Islamic Finance from IBFIM, where she was recognised as the Highest Achiever, and the Certificate of Shariah Advisor from the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS).
Beyond her corporate responsibilities, she actively contributes to the advancement of Islamic economics and finance. She served as a panel consultant at the International Research Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance (IRCEIF) from 2021 to 2024 and was appointed as a trainer for the Certificate in Shariah for Banking and Finance (CIBF) programme.
A frequent speaker and panellist at local and international forums, she is passionate about knowledge sharing and regularly lectures at universities and industry events worldwide. She is also a certified Halal Executive, having successfully completed the Executive Halal Training programme, demonstrating her expertise in halal standards and compliance.
